Car Insurance by Vehicle
Your vehicle is one of the inputs insurers use to price auto insurance. Canada Rate Lab organizes Canadian claims and theft context by make and model without pretending there is one universal premium for every driver.
Why the vehicle changes the insurance equation
Insurance Bureau of Canada says insurers may consider make, model, year, value, repair cost and safety features. Claims experience matters too: collision, comprehensive losses, theft and repair or replacement costs can influence vehicle-side insurance risk.
Canada Rate Lab separates vehicle risk data from driver premium data. A model can show different claims experience without every owner paying the same premium.
IBC — How Cars Measure Up →50 vehicle insurance guides
We do not publish fake “average insurance by model” numbers
A premium is produced from the combination of vehicle, driver, address, coverage, deductible, insurer and other approved rating variables. Vehicle pages therefore begin with documented claims or vehicle-risk evidence. Province-specific premium estimates will be added only when a defensible dataset exists.
How the database will scale
The first 50 cover mainstream cars, SUVs, pickups and EVs. The same template can expand to hundreds of models.
IBC's claims data is model-year specific, so future pages can distinguish generations instead of treating a model name as one risk.
Ontario and Alberta will be the first vehicle-plus-province layers once comparable pricing evidence is available.
