Enter the separate and bundled offers

Use written quotes for the same proposed twelve months, coverage and tax basis. Enter the offered premiums after any discounts. This comparison does not assume that a bundle is available or cheaper.

This choice changes the labels only. It does not estimate a price or change your amounts. Replace the figures if you switch to a different kind of policy.

Separate-policy option
Enter the total extra charges for this twelve-month option, including known payment-plan fees. Add only charges excluded from both premiums. Blank means unknown and excluded; enter 0 for confirmed no extra charges.
Bundled option
Enter the total extra charges for this twelve-month option, including known payment-plan fees. Add only charges excluded from both premiums. Blank means unknown and excluded; enter 0 for confirmed no extra charges.

Bundle cost comparison

Enter all four premiums to compare the offers. Use 0 only when the quoted premium is actually zero.

Separate total = separate auto + separate property + separate charges. Bundle total = bundled auto + bundled property + bundle charges. Difference = separate total − bundle total.

This is a price comparison for the figures entered, not a measurement of the insurer’s advertised discount or a recommendation. It does not value coverage changes, cancellation charges or future renewal prices.

Enter valid values to download or print your calculation. The file is created on your device.

Figures remain in this page and are cleared when you leave or reload. Reports are created in your browser; no financial amounts are added to links.

How to compare a home, condo or tenant bundle

  1. Choose the property policy that matches your situation and obtain the actual auto and property prices for each option.
  2. Use annual quotes for the same proposed start date. Do not mix a remaining-term bill with a full-year quote; use the switching calculator for a mid-term change.
  3. Enter the premiums after discounts. Do not subtract an advertised percentage again from prices that already include it.
  4. Total the separate charges for both policies in each option. Include a charge once, even if it appears on more than one document.

Separate total = separate auto + separate property + separate charges. Bundle total = bundled auto + bundled property + bundle charges. Difference = separate total − bundle total.

Worked example: fees reduce the apparent saving

The separate premiums are $2,400 for auto and $1,800 for home, plus $60 in separate charges. The bundle quotes $2,200 and $1,650, plus $110 in charges.

Worked example: fees reduce the apparent saving
ItemAmount (CAD)
Separate total: $2,400 + $1,800 + $60$4,260.00
Bundle total: $2,200 + $1,650 + $110$3,960.00
Auto premium contribution+$200.00
Home premium contribution+$150.00
Extra charges reduce the saving−$50.00
Final difference over twelve months$300.00 (7.04%)

The premium-only difference is $350, but the higher bundle charges reduce it to $300. Its monthly equivalent is $25; the actual instalments may differ.

Bundle comparison questions

Does a bundle always save money?

No saving is assumed here. The bundle may cost less, the same or more than the separate option you enter. Compare the complete offered totals and review the coverage before deciding.

Can renters and condo owners use the calculator?

Yes, if you have actual written auto and tenant or condo quotes to compare. Select the matching property type and replace all amounts. The calculator does not establish eligibility for an insurer’s bundle.

Is the result the insurer’s advertised bundle discount?

No. It compares two complete offers. An advertised discount may use a different starting price or apply to only part of the premium. Enter final offered prices and do not apply the discount a second time.

What if I change insurers before renewal?

The annual comparison leaves cancellation and timing effects outside the result. Use the switching-cost worksheet for each affected policy, and ask for a revised price if ending one policy changes a discount on the other.

Sources and calculation basis

The Insurance Bureau of Canada suggests asking about multi-policy savings, coverage needs and early-cancellation fees. FCAC explains premiums and policy terms. The worksheet’s arithmetic uses your figures; neither source supplies a universal bundle discount.
