TRANSPARENCY

Sources & Data

Canada Rate Lab prioritizes primary Canadian sources: regulators, governments, legislation, statistical agencies and established insurance-industry datasets.

Source ≠ interpretation. A source can provide a rate filing, price index, legal rule or claims statistic. Canada Rate Lab labels what the source actually establishes before drawing any consumer-facing conclusion.

Core national and provincial sources

Municipal risk sources

City pages use municipal information when local flood, drainage, hail, earthquake, wildfire or resilience programs make a material difference to the insurance-risk discussion. A city is added only when the local source layer is strong enough to make the page substantively useful.

Our source hierarchy

01Primary official data

Regulators, legislation, governments and Statistics Canada are preferred for rules and official benchmarks.

02Industry loss data

IBC, BAC, Équité and actuarial reports are used for claims, theft and insurance-market context.

03Calculated outputs

Our calculators use user-entered numbers or explicitly documented assumptions and are labelled as calculations.

What we do not do

We do not copy an unsourced “average premium” from another comparison website and present it as our own dataset. We also do not convert a claims statistic, price index, legal registration fee or insurer filing into a personal quote.

QUÉBEC · FRENCH-FIRST

Québec has its own verified French source layer

The substantive Québec product pages are published under /fr/ and use SAAQ, AMF, GAA, TAL, CNESST, Québec.ca and BAC. The English Québec page remains a noindex language bridge.
