Most employers need to understand WCB coverage before private insurance
WCB Manitoba says most businesses are required to have workers compensation coverage. Worker definitions include many employment arrangements and some contract workers, while optional coverage exists for certain non-mandatory businesses and owners.

MPI creates a province-specific commercial auto layer
Commercial vehicles in Manitoba begin with Autopac registration and insurance. MPI's Special Risk Extension program provides specialized commercial coverage for classes such as large trucks and fleets, and can add customized Loss of Use or other extensions for eligible operations.
MPI — Commercial insurance coverage →Private coverage depends on the actual operation
Customer traffic, work at client sites, products and contracts can change CGL needs.
Stock, equipment, premises and business-interruption exposure should reflect current replacement and restoration costs.
Advice, technology, data and contractual duties can create risks that ordinary CGL does not solve.
WCB clearance does not replace a subcontractor's private insurance
A clearance can show whether a contractor is in good standing with WCB. It does not by itself prove that the contractor carries CGL, commercial auto, tools or professional liability coverage required by a project contract.
