SGI Business Recognition: Commercial Vehicle Discounts & Surcharges
SGI's Business Recognition program rates eligible business vehicles from the company's responsible-claim experience. A five-year loss ratio can produce a Basic insurance discount of up to 15% or surcharge up to 25% for most participants.

This is not the same as an individual driver's SDR
A company can have many drivers. SGI therefore uses the business's responsible-claim loss ratio for Business Recognition rather than applying an owner's personal driving record to every company vehicle.
New businesses are phased in
SGI prorates discounts and surcharges when a business has fewer than five years in the program. This reduces the chance that one early bad year immediately creates the full maximum surcharge.
IRP fleets can face different maximums
SGI says IRP Business Recognition participants can face larger surcharges in high-loss circumstances because of interprovincial and U.S. operating exposure. Fleet operators should review the specific IRP rules rather than relying on the ordinary 25% maximum.
Commercial vehicle rating uses the business's responsible-claim experience
SGI calculates the loss ratio from responsible claims paid versus premiums paid over the assessment period, subject to claim caps. This business rating is separate from a driver's individual Safe Driver Recognition position.
