WCB registration and contractor clearances, SGI commercial vehicle rules, CGL, property, business interruption, professional liability and cyber coverage explained as separate layers.

Nine Saskatchewan commercial insurance guides
Get a clearance before paying a contractor
Saskatchewan WCB's current clearance policy says a principal must request a clearance before releasing payment to a contractor for completed work. The clearance can show Cleared, Deemed or Hold status and protects the principal from certain unpaid contractor premiums.

SGI's Business Recognition program uses five years of responsible claims and paid premium to calculate a business loss ratio. Eligible businesses can receive discounts up to 15% or surcharges up to 25% on Basic vehicle insurance, with separate rules for IRP fleets.
Private coverage should follow the actual exposure
A contractor, consultant, retailer and software company can have very different liability, property, vehicle and cyber risks. Canada Rate Lab separates CGL, professional liability, property, interruption and cyber rather than publishing one meaningless “Saskatchewan small-business average.”
Property and interruption should be reviewed together
Saskatchewan's 2025 wildfire season and 2026 Prairie storms demonstrate that physical damage and operational downtime can occur together. Property insurance and business interruption still have different triggers, limits and calculations.
