Saskatchewan WCB Registration for Employers & Contractors
Saskatchewan WCB coverage is a statutory workplace-insurance layer, not private CGL. In covered industries, workers are protected and businesses that hire workers or contractors can have registration, reporting and premium obligations.

Worker status is broader than a normal payroll label
Saskatchewan WCB rules distinguish employees, contractors and independent workers through statutory definitions. A business should not assume that calling someone a contractor automatically removes workplace-insurance responsibilities.
Mandatory and excluded industries are different
The Workers’ Compensation Act and regulations determine which industries and occupations are mandatory or excluded. Businesses in excluded categories can have different voluntary-coverage options, so registration should be confirmed with WCB rather than inferred from a generic business type.
WCB is not CGL
Workers' compensation provides statutory workplace benefits and protections. Commercial General Liability is private insurance for different third-party claims. Carrying one does not automatically replace the other.
