Inland Flood & Water Insurance in Prince Edward Island

PEI says inland flooding can occur when extreme rainfall cannot be absorbed quickly enough, including around hard surfaces or frozen ground. Homeowners should separate surface-water, sewer-backup and internal-plumbing causes when reviewing coverage.

The source of water matters

Rainwater entering at grade, a backed-up sewer, a burst pipe and coastal storm surge can all leave a wet basement but can be handled differently by insurance. Ask which cause of loss the endorsement actually covers.

Property-level mitigation can reduce damage severity

Drainage, grading, sump systems, backwater protection and moving valuables out of low areas can reduce physical exposure. None of those measures alone guarantees coverage or a discount.

Future rainfall risk does not equal a guaranteed claim

Climate and flood mapping show hazard, not certainty. Underwriting and claim decisions still depend on the specific location, building, maintenance, event and policy terms.
