How New Brunswick Auto Insurance Rates Are Regulated
New Brunswick uses private automobile insurers, but rates are regulated by the New Brunswick Insurance Board. Insurers must file proposed rates with the Board at least once every 12 months, and the Board reviews them for just and reasonable pricing.

One approval is not a New Brunswick-wide increase
Each insurer files its own rates. A 2026 approval for one company should remain labelled as that company's approved average rate change, not be repackaged as the increase every New Brunswick driver will see.
Effective dates matter
Board tables distinguish the approval date from effective dates for new business and renewals. A useful rate tracker preserves all three dates rather than assuming a decision immediately changes every policy.
The Board and FCNB have different roles
FCNB regulates insurance companies, intermediaries and consumer-protection issues, while the New Brunswick Insurance Board regulates automobile insurance rates. Canada Rate Lab keeps those responsibilities distinct.
