SGI 2026 Rate Increase: What Changed June 1
SGI implemented a 3.75% interim rate increase on June 1, 2026 for all vehicle classes except motorcycles and taxis. That is a system-level change, not a promise that every vehicle's premium moved by exactly 3.75%.

3.75% is the program change, not every driver's exact result
Vehicle-level premiums can move differently because the risk and claim-cost characteristics of each make, model, year and class matter. SGI also caps rate changes to reduce sudden impacts.
Keep registration fees, PST and discounts separate
SGI's published insurance-rate tables exclude registration fees, PST, the EV road-use charge and Safe Driver Recognition or Business Recognition adjustments. Canada Rate Lab keeps those components separate too.
The 2027 proposal is not an approved future increase
SGI proposed another 3.75% increase for June 1, 2027. On July 31, 2026, the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel said it was not recommending approval of that second increase at that time. Final future rates remain subject to the government and rate-review process, so the 2027 proposal should not be presented as a settled premium change.
Insurance premium is not the same as the total registration transaction
SGI's 2026 rate tables state that the published insurance premium does not include registration fees, PST, the EV road-use charge or Safe Driver Recognition / Business Recognition adjustments. Keeping these items separate makes renewal comparisons more meaningful.
