Saskatchewan Extended Auto Insurance: What Basic Plate May Not Be Enough For
Basic plate insurance is compulsory, but SGI itself notes that drivers may want additional protection. Extended insurance is a separate policy purchased from an insurer, broker or agent and should be compared by actual limits and endorsements.

Start with the gap, not a package name
The useful question is what the Basic plate package leaves exposed: liability above C$200,000, a deductible the household does not want to retain, temporary transportation or other policy-specific needs.
Compare equivalent limits
Two extension quotes are not comparable if one has higher liability, a lower deductible or broader loss-of-use protection. Canada Rate Lab treats each coverage component separately rather than ranking package names.
Basic and extended providers are different layers
Compulsory Basic insurance comes from SGI with registration. Additional insurance may be purchased from the insurer, broker or agent of the driver's choice.
