Saskatchewan No Fault vs Tort Auto Injury Coverage
Saskatchewan residents start with No Fault injury coverage unless they formally choose Tort Coverage. The choice affects injury benefits and lawsuit rights, but both options are separate from physical-damage and liability questions.

No Fault is the default
A Saskatchewan resident does not need to opt in to No Fault. A resident who wants Tort Coverage must file the appropriate declaration before an injury occurs.
You cannot change the choice after the collision for that injury
SGI says the coverage held at the time of the collision is the coverage that applies to the injuries from that event. This makes the decision a prospective coverage choice rather than a claim-time election.
Injury coverage is not the same as third-party liability
No Fault or Tort describes the personal auto injury framework. Plate liability separately addresses covered legal responsibility for injury or property damage caused to others.
